February 2: The Theatre of Tadeusz Kantor
Join us for Movie Nite at the Polish Club!
Polish Movie Nite is happy to present The Theatre of Tadeusz Kantor (1991), a unique documentary by Denis Bablet about the work of Tadeusz Kantor, a legendary genius of theatre. From his upbringing in Poland to his development as a theatrical artist of rare invention, the film details Kantor's life and his founding and leadership of the Cricot 2 acting company, complete with riveting glimpses of Kantor at work. In one unique scene, Kantor is on stage and "conducts" the actors as a symphony conductor might lead an orchestra. Extensive segments from some of Kantor's most famous works, The Dead Class (1975), and Wielopole, Wielopole (1980), are also included.
The film will be introduced by Marcella Faustini, a San Francisco-based artist and curator. She earned her MFA at the California College of the Arts, San Francisco. Originally from Brazil but now neither from here nor there, she currently finds herself counting walls at Noma Gallery.
